Magician Om Prakash Sharma popularly known as OP Sharma died at a Kanpur hospital in Uttar Pradesh on October 15. The famous magician died due to kidney failure as per reports. 

The magician was suffering from kidney disease and was undergoing treatment for a long time. OP Sharma was residing at Bhoot Bungalow located in Barra in Kanpur. He is survived by his wife Meenakshi and his four children, three sons and one daughter.

His elder son Prem Prakash Sharma works in Delhi Doordarshan. His middle son Satya Prakash Sharma works in a printing press and his third son, Pankaj Sharma works in a printing press. His daughter, Renu Sharma resides in the USA as per ZeeNews.

OP Sharma contested the assembly elections from Govind Nagar on a Samajwadi Party ticket in 2002. In 2019, he joined the BJP.

Keshav Prasad Maurya, the Deputy CM of Uttar Pradesh expressed condolence on the magician’s death and tweeted, “Received sad news about the demise of decades’ one-man show of magic, famous magician, Kanpur resident OP Sharma ji.”

An AajTak reporter mentioned that OP Sharma performed more than 34,000 magic shows in his career. OP Sharma received the National Magic Award from the Indian Magic Media Circle in 2001. He was conferred with the title of Shahenshah-E-Jadoo. 

OP Sharma is believed to have learned the initial magic tricks from his elder brother Late Devtanand Sharma. A convoy of more than 100 people used to accompany him whenever the magician performed a show in any city, as per ZeeNews. His team consisted of many associates including artists, musicians, painters, singers, make-up men, lighting controllers, and tailors. OP Sharma has not done shows since the year 2018 as per Jagran.

OP Sharma’s death is the second loss for Kanpur as comedian Raju Shrivastava passed away a month ago.
