British rapper and hip hop star MF Doom has died at the age of 49, his family confirmed on social media, BBC reported. The rapper, known for his rhyme style and masks, died on October 31, his wife confirmed in a post on his Instagram handle.

In her post, Jasmine described her husband as “the greatest husband, father, teacher, student, business partner, lover and friend” she could ever ask for.

Born in London, MF Doom moved to New York as a child. 

As a teenager, he was a part of the hip-hop group KMD. However, following his brother’s death, he disappeared from the word of music.  

In 1997, he reappeared at open mic events, wearing tights over his face which he soon replaced with masks. His look was based on Doctor Doom, a Marvel super villain.

Throughout his music career, he released six solo albums and was also known for his collaborations with musicians such as Danger Mouse and Ghostface Killah.
