Neil Gaiman’s popular Netflix series The Sandman has been renewed for a second season. The streaming giant has officially announced the second season after the huge popularity and success of the first season. 

According to Netflix, the upcoming episode is “a continuation of The Sandman world”. The number of episodes and the specifics of the plot have not been disclosed yet. 

The official Twitter handle of the series announced the renewal of the show by sharing a short clip on their Twitter post. The tweet read, “The Dream Continues.” “Yes, it’s true: The Sandman will return to Netflix.” Says @neilhimself: “Some astonishing stories are waiting for Morpheus and the rest of them… Now it’s time to get back to work. There’s a family meal ahead, after all.” And Lucifer is waiting for Morpheus to return to Hell.”

The creator of the Netflix series and the author of the original comic book series, Neil Gaiman, also shared the same post and wrote “The rumors are true. Netflix is thrilled that so many of you have been watching Sandman, and the thing we were all hoping would happen… has indeed happened.”

The Sandman has an ensemble cast that includes Tom Sturridge the titular god of dreams, along with Vivienne Acheampong, Gwendoline Christie, Patton Oswalt, Kyo Ra, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Boyd Holbrook, Jenna Coleman, and Mason Alexander. Soon after its release on August 5 on Netflix the series became an instant hit and was also on the streamer’s global Top 10 list for seven weeks after its premiere.

This mega-hit series replaced Stranger Things from Nielsen’s No 1 Streaming Spot. The series The Sandman had 393.14 million watch hours on Netflix globally within two weeks after its release. 

The series has been adapted from a comic book of the same name and it has an eccentric storyline. To negotiate for perpetual life, a wizard traps Dream’s younger brother Death. The wizard kept him imprisoned in a glass container for many years as it was concerned for his safety. While Dream, who is also known by the name of Morpheus, later flees and sets off in search of his stolen magical items.
