Season one of House of the Dragon, the much-anticipated Game of Thrones spinoff series, will feature a total of nine dragons, co-showrunner Miguel Sapochnik confirmed Empire magazine. The show will have a total of 17 dragons in its entirety, with the rest being scheduled to appear in subsequent seasons.

Interestingly, each of these nine dragons that are set to appear in season one will have unique characteristics of their own. “One of them’s got a [bad] leg. Another one’s much more like an eagle, because she’s kind of neurotic. And another one’s like a curmudgeonly old granny”, sais Sapochnik. He also added that the initial plan was that there would be three different variants of dragons in the show based on their skulls. However, that plan has now been scrapped, with Drogon, one of Daenerys Targaryen’s dragons, being considered the prototype.
