With the Tokyo Olympics underway, Twitter has decided
to soak in the magic of the world’s biggest sporting event. To celebrate the
Summer Games, the microblogging site has launched a series of emojis.
The emojis feature symbols for the opening ceremony,
medals and different sports categories. These emojis will be available in 30
languages for the first time in the history of these games, said the Olympics
Organising Committee.
The organising committee put out a series of tweets
saying that people around the world will now be able to use these emojis to
express themselves during the 16-day global event.
First, there is an Olympics emoji. It can be used by typing
Olympics with a hashtag.
Up next, is the emoji that will allow people to celebrate
their favourite player’s triumph. There will be medal emojis for gold, silver
and bronze winners. The emojis will appear upon typing gold, silver or bronze
with a hashtag.
There are emojis for the 33 different kinds of sports
being played in the Olympics.
Then, there are special emojis designed for opening
and closing ceremonies.
Organised every four years, the Olympics are the
biggest, grandest and most diverse sporting tournaments of the world. Players
from 33 extensive categories of sports compete in sports ranging from
archery to swimming.
The
emojis are a way to bring a smile to faces of people associated with the
Olympics and those talking about the event the world over.
The
Tokyo Olympics 2020 is being held in the most unique of circumstances. The
Games were scheduled to be held in July–August last year but had to be postponed
after the COVID-19 pandemic spread across the world.
No
spectators are allowed at the Olympics this time and athletes are being tested
for COVID-19 every day.
