Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in
Pakistan on Saturday approved release of funds amounting to Rs 2.35 crores to
purchase the ancestral homes of Bollywood greats Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor
already demarcated as national heritage, PTI reported.

With the province’s Chief Minister
Mehmud Khan formally approving the proposal, the relevant authorities have finally
gained access to the resources required to purchase the ancestral havelis at a
rate determined by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Communication and Works Department few
weeks back.

Reportedly, Peshawar Deputy
Commissioner Muhammad Ali Asghar, following a report from the department, as
affixed the prices of Dilip Kumar’s four marla (101 square metre) house and Raj
Kapoor’s six marla (151.75 square metre) house at Rs 80.56 lakhs and Rs 1.50
crore respectively.

The archaeology department had sent a
formal request to the provincial government to release over Rs 2 crore in order
to purchase the houses.

Kapoor’s ancestral home, Kapoor
Haveli, is situated close to the renowned Qissa Khwani Bazar, built between
1918 and 1922 by the Bollywood legend’s grandfather Dr Basheswanath Kapoor.

Bollywood veteran Dilip Kumar’s house
is also in the same locality. With more than a century’s gap having passed between
the current times and the establishment of the house, the Nawaz Sharif government
declared it a national heritage in 2014.
