Sourav
Ganguly, arguably the most powerful man in Indian cricket right now, made a
major blunder while sharing a Facebook post which was part of an ad campaign by
e-commerce platform Meesho.
The BCCI
(Board of Control for Cricket in India) president shared a post on Facebook
which said: “It was fun shooting for it! My new Mega Blockbuster is releasing
soon,” with a picture of the former cricketer apparently starring in a film.
This was
where the post was supposed to end. But the 50-year-old who hosts a Bengali
quiz show made a gaffe and posted the direction issued by Meesho with the post.
It stated: “Please ensure the Meesho brand name or Meesho hashtag is NOWHERE
mentioned in tomorrow’s 1st September post.”
The post
was subsequently deleted and replaced. Ganguly made a similar error while
posting on Instagram where his post tagged Meesho, albeit an incorrect handle,
while sharing the picture. This too was later removed.

The Mega
Blockbuster campaign had sparked a lot of interest on social media when Indian
cricket team captain Rohit Sharma shared a picture of him “starring” in Mega
Blockbuster. Similar posts went out at the same time from Rashmika Mandanna,
Tamil actor Karthi, Deepika Padukone and Kapil Sharma. The internet was
positively flummoxed with many speculating, rather indulging in wishful thinking,
that all these people were part of either a film or OTT project.
It was
Sourav Ganguly’s post that gave away the suspense built by Meesho. The poster
included a line which said “Trailer Out 4th Sept,” indicating the e-commerce
company was building up to some giant reveal. But Ganguly’s error threw water
on the brand’s efforts. The brand, however, did leave one clue in the pictures. Every ‘poster’ says “OHSEEM presents,” which is MEESHO written in reverse.
Meesho
calls itself “India’s fastest-growing ecommerce company.” Founded in 2016 by
Vidit Aatrey and Sanjeev Barnwal, Meesho seeks to enable mom-and-pop stores to
sell online.
