The much-awaited trailer for Martin McDonagh’s latest movie, The Banshees Of Inishirin, has just been released. The film reunites Brendan Gleeson, Colin Farrell, and McDonagh 15 years after their crime-comedy caper, In Bruges, which was also the 52-year-old filmmaker’s debut feature.

The Banshees Of Inishirin is McDonagh’s fifth feature film and his first to be set in his native country, Ireland. The plot, which is set during the Irish Civil War, revolves around two friends, Pádraic (Farrell) and Colm (Gleeson). Colm suddenly announces that Pádraic is “dull”, and thus he will not speak to the latter anymore. Pádraic is taken aback by this sudden declaration by his friend and tries to change his mind. However, Colm is serious about his decision and gives Pádraic an ultimatum that suddenly escalates the stakes. What happens later is for fans to discover in the theatres. Have a look at the trailer here:

McDonagh had earlier written a dark comedy entitled The Cripple of Inishmaan, which deals with the arrival of a documentary crew in the reclusive town of Inishmore. It remains to be seen whether McDonagh draws any parallel between his new film and his play.

Incidentally, the aforementioned In Bruges is another film that deals with the various nuances of friendship within its plot. Here, Gleeson and Farrell play the roles of two gunmen who have been ordered by their boss to go into hiding post an accidental murder. How the two actors and the filmmaker have evolved their craft and how the collaboration between them takes shape, are things fans will have their eyes on.
