Disney Channel on Saturday confirmed that its animated series “The Owl House” has a bisexual lead for the first time. The series is focused on the adventures of Luz Noceda who stumbles upon a portal to a magical realm.

The creator of the show Dana Terrace had earlier said in a tweet that Disney was not open to the idea of having a queer character in the main cast.

“I was very open about my intention to put queer kids in the main cast. I’m a horrible liar so sneaking it in would’ve been hard haha. When we were greenlit I was told by certain Disney leadership that I could not represent any form of bi or gay relationship on the Channel,” she wrote on Twitter.

Stating that the decision was personal, Dana said that she is bisexual and always wanted to create a bisexual character. She added that the current team is supportive of her visions.

“Representation matters! Always fight to make what you want to see! As Owl House continues I can’t wait to explore things that are important to me and my crew. Looking forward to the next chapter,” she wrote.

The move has received massive online support and appreciation from viewers.
