Jenny Han authored the Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy, which narrates a tale of a love triangle involving two siblings and a girl who share a deep childhood friendship. In the Prime Video series adaptation, Gavin Casalegno takes on the role of the younger brother, Jeremiah, while Christopher Briney embodies the character of the elder brother, Conrad. Lola Tung, on the other hand, portrays the central character of Belly, who becomes the love interest of both brothers.
In the third and final installment of the TSITP series, titled “We’ll Always Have Summer,” the trilogy concludes with Belly and Conrad’s marriage. This ultimate moment of their story unfolds after navigating through numerous complications. At the outset of the third book, Jeremiah and Belly initiate a serious romantic relationship while attending the same college. However, the storyline takes a twist when Belly discovers that Jeremiah cheated on her during a college party. Despite this setback, Jeremiah begs for her forgiveness and proposes marriage, a proposal she accepts despite her family’s concerns.
As the narrative progresses, while arranging her wedding with Jeremiah at Cousins Beach, Belly discovers that Conrad has been residing alone in the family home. She soon realizes that her feelings for the older brother have endured. This realization prompts the breakup of her relationship with Jeremiah. Following this, she departs for Spain for a study abroad program, during which time Conrad begins sending her heartfelt love letters. Upon her return, Belly and Conrad are reunited, and their relationship eventually culminates in marriage. This final resolution marks the poignant conclusion of their intricate and emotional journey.

Season 3 of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” is currently in development and has not yet been released, leaving the question of Belly’s choice unresolved in the Prime Video show.
In addition to being the author of the original TSITP books, Jenny Han also holds roles as a writer, producer, and co-showrunner for the Prime Video series. Since the debut of the first season in June 2022, followed by the second season in July 2023, avid viewers have observed several divergences between the show and the original book series. These alterations have sparked the attention and discussion of fans.
In June 2023, Gavin provided a tantalizing hint to Us Weekly, suggesting that the show might potentially alter the ultimate couples in the endgame.
“I do feel like there’s a strong chance that that’s a possibility,” the actor shared, teasing Jeremiah’s future character arc.
“I try to keep it as real as possible in that regard. Obviously, I know where he ends up going and what ends up happening. But I don’t emphasize on that. Because I think [author and showrunner] Jenny [Han] writes it so well that I’m able to kind of get there naturally without having to force it a certain direction,” Gavin explained, referring to the plot of the original book series. “So, even though I know where he is going, I try to play it day by day because that’s all we can do. [We can] just live in the moment and make the most of our time right.”
