Bollywood director Nishikant Kamat died on Monday evening at a Hyderabad hospital following a long battle with liver cirrhosis. 

Kamat directed Bollywood movies like ‘Drishyam’, ‘Madaari’, ‘Force’, and ‘Rocky Handsome’ among others. Apart from direction, he also showed his acting talent in films like ‘Rocky Handsome’ in which he was seen in a negative role and in Marathi film ‘Saatchya Aat Gharat’.

Tributes and condolences have been pouring in on social media platforms from co-workers and admirers following confirmation of Kamat’s death.

Ajay Devgn, who collaborated with Kamat in Drishyam, took to Twitter to say he cherished their association.  

“My equation with Nishikant was not just about Drishyam, a film which he directed with Tabu and me. It was an association that I cherished. He was bright; ever-smiling. He has gone too soon.
RIP Nishikant,” the actor said in his tweet.

Meanwhile, actor Ritesh Deshmukh shared a picture of the late director with the caption, “I will miss you my friend. #NishikantKamat Rest In Peace.”

Actor Paresh Rawal called Kamat one of his favourite directors. 

“One of my favourite Director Nishikant Kamat Who made “Mumbai Meri Jaan “breathed his last today at Hyderabad hospital. Thanks Nishi for such a meaningful film and memories. AUM SHANTI,” Rawal tweeted. 

“I will always remember the warmth of your smile and the twinkle in your eyes Nishi sir!  Thank you for #DombiviliFast #MumbaiMeriJaan and all those conversations..,” said Swara Bhasker. 

Randeep Hooda also paid tribute to the late director, saying, “Farewell Nishi!! You lived and died by what you decided you loved more than anything else .. I’m sure you had no regrets about much .. thank you for all the movies, all the fun stories, warmth and smiles”
