In Sony’s big-screen, live-action adaptation of the hit game franchise Uncharted, Spider-Man star Tom Holland makes his debut as Nathan Drake. The first trailer for Ruben Fleischer’s film, which was written by Rafe Judkins, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway and directed by Ruben Fleischer, is available below.

The Uncharted film is a prequel/origin for the global adventurer, with Drake bartending before embarking on a treasure quest with Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg).

Official description of the films reads, “In an action-adventure epic that spans the globe, the two go in dangerous pursuit of ‘the greatest treasure never found’ while also tracking clues that may lead to Nathan’s long-lost brother.”

The film features an ensemble cast including Sophia Ali, Tati Gabrielle and Antonio Banderas.

Uncharted is based on Naughty Dog’s Playstation game franchise, which debuted in 2007 and has since spawned a slew of sequels. The film has a long history of being adapted for the big screen, having been directed by a number of different filmmakers (such as David O. Russell, Neil Burger, Seth Gordon, Shawn Levy and Dan Trachtenberg being reportedly tied to the project).

Uncharted is scheduled to release on February 18, 2022.

Recently, Tom Holland talked to British GQ about the challenges of playing the role in the move.

“As soon as you start worrying about ‘Do I look good in this shot?’ acting becomes something other than playing a character,” he said. “I think there are elements of my performance in ‘Uncharted’ where I kind of fell under that spell of being ‘I want to look good now. I want this to be my cool moment.’ I had to play this very tough, very stoic guy — basically be Mark Wahlberg. My character is supposed to be a fucking action hero in this moment! Look, I haven’t seen it, so I don’t know if I succeeded in that. But it was an important lesson learned, because, at times, it was less about land a mark and go through this scene and more about land a mark, stand like this and see my bulging biceps. … It was a mistake and is something that I will probably never do again.”
