Face masks are here to stay so instead of buying the same
old designs how about trying the new trend that are making waves? Vanity masks
are here to stay and are ruling the fashion market of both India and Pakistan.

“Fashion has always drawn inspiration from what’s going on
in the world – sadly mask will be the new trending accessory as long as the pandemic
exists. Surgical masks are so ugly hence we as fashion influencers need to
replace them with vanity ones that look attractive on the face,” Karachi- based
designer Huma Adnan told Opoyi.

She also said that as coronavirus pandemic impacts everyone,
her  team of artisans is crafting vanity
masks which are embroidered and have a handmade accessorised string attached
with them so one can hang them when not in use.

“These masks are made of cotton and have an inbuilt filter.
They are washable and reusable. The strings are detachable and can be worn as a
bracelet too,” she said adding that since “they need to be protective as well
which is why we have come up with filtered ones.”

Same is with Indian brand Taneira.

Anindita Sardar
– Head, Design and Curation of the brand, says that “delicately embroidered masks in
pure and natural fabrics with Bagru, Ajrakh prints are also something that
customers have shared their liking for.”

“Comfort is the
key aspect for long term usage. Hence we are giving due attention to the shape,
elastic used and fit. We are using variety of printed fabrics, Ikat
fabrics, masks in natural indigo dye and woven fabrics that go
effortlessly with western work-wear as well as casual ethnic wear,” she told Opoyi.

Functionality
is the key here too.

“We are
working on different styles of fabric masks without compromising on
the basic functionality which customers will find relevant and interesting. We
are consciously making it more ornate for special occasions and weddings with
embroidered masks in Silk, Zardosi, Brocade and Tanchoi fabrics.
Silk masks in pastel tones like mauve, lilac, powder blue, baby pinks
are the much in demand for occasional wear,” said Sardar.
