What is Myositis?

Myositis refers to any disorder that causes muscular inflammation. The most frequent myositis symptoms include weakness, oedema, and pain. Infection, injury, auto-immune diseases, and pharmacological adverse effects are all potential causes of myositis. Myositis treatment differs depending on the aetiology.

Myositis is caused by conditions that cause inflammation throughout the body and affect the muscles. Many of these causes are autoimmune diseases, which occur when the body attacks its own tissues.

Dermatomyositis, polymyositis, and inclusion body myositis are all inflammatory diseases that can lead to severe myositis.

Other inflammatory disorders, such as lupus, scleroderma, and rheumatoid arthritis, are known to cause milder types of myositis. Inflammatory disorders are frequently the most significant causes of myositis, necessitating long-term treatment.

Myositis patients have difficulty getting out of a chair, climbing stairs, lifting objects, and combing their hair. Muscle weakness can progress to the point where even picking up a cup of tea becomes difficult. The muscle weakness may vary from week to week or month to month, but it will worsen if you do not seek therapy.

Exercise is a critical component of treatment for all types of myositis. It can help you minimise edoema, gain energy, and build or regain muscle strength.

If you have inclusion body myositis (IBM), exercise and physiotherapy are very crucial because these are the sole treatments for this type of myositis. IBM cannot be cured with medications.
