Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao issued a joint statement on Saturday, announcing their separation after 15 years of marriage. 

%u201CIn these 15 beautiful years together we have shared a lifetime of experiences, joy and laughter, and our relationship has only grown in trust, respect and love. Now we would like to begin a new chapter in our lives – no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family for each other,%u201D they said in a statement. 

“We began a planned separation some time ago, and now feel comfortable to formalise this arrangement, of living separately yet sharing our lives the way an extended family does,” the statement added.

Aamir and Kiran met on the sets of the movie %u2018Lagaan%u2019 in 2001. They began dating in 2004 and got married the following year. 

Before Kiran, Aamir was married to Reena Dutta for 15 years before separating in 2002. They have two children- Junaid and Ira.

Aamir has also been linked to his %u2018Dangal%u2019 co-star Fatima Sana Shaikh. 

In an interview with Filmfare in 2019, Fatima reacted tp the rumours saying,  %u201CEarlier, I used to get affected. I%u2019d feel bad. Because I%u2019ve never dealt with anything of this sort at such a big level. A bunch of strangers, whom I%u2019ve never met, are writing things about me. They don%u2019t even know if there%u2019s any truth to it. People reading it assume that I%u2019m %u2018not a good person%u2019. You feel like telling that person, %u2018Ask me, I%u2019ll give you an answer%u2019. It disturbs me because I don%u2019t want people to assume wrong things. But I%u2019ve learnt to ignore it. Yet, there are some days when I do get affected.%u201D
