Byun Baekhyun, who goes by the single name Baekhyun, is a K-Pop singer and songwriter. He made history last year when his EP Delight became the first Korean album by a soloist in 20 years to sell over a million copies. Baekhyun turns 29 tomorrow and is top trending in many parts of the world as fans celebrate his birthday.

Baekhyun is throwing a big birthday party tomorrow and then will enlist in the South Korean army for mandatory service. Baekhyun will serve as a social worker.

Baekhyun announced to his parents at age 11 that he was going to be a singer. He told them “that when i grew up, I wouldn’t be able to hold a job that works while sitting in office. As my usual personality is very active I am not able to stay still in one position,” Beaukyun had told Elle Korea in an interview in 2015.

He said friends encouraged him. “As I hummed along along to the songs of singers appearing on tv, my friends told me I was good at it, which made me want to give it a try. And so when I was in year 6 of primary school I officially started to work on my dream of becoming a singer after watching singer Rain-senior. I thought he was really handsome when I saw his presence filling up that wide stage all by himself,” he said.

Rain is the stage name of 38-year-old Jung Ji-hoon, a South Korean singer and songwriter, and like Baekhyun, an actor too.

Baekhyun was spotted by a music agent in 2011. In January 2012 it was announced that Baekhyun would be the main vocalist of EXO and the group debuted in April that year, quickly rising to become one of the more popular K-Pop acts.

Baekhyun is called his team’s mood-maker. Fans also call him Genius Idol.

The singer is also a dan 3 black belt in Hapkido, a Korean martial art.
