Oliver Hermanus’ Living starring Bill Nighy premiered at the 2022 Sundance film festival in January. The film, whose distribution rights have been purchased by Sony Pictures Classics has garnered great reviews thus far from all quarters, making it the talk of the town. Much of the credit for the film’s positive show has been showered upon the lead actor Bill Nighy. The film will also screen at the TCL Chinese theatre as part of the 2022 AFI Fest on November 6, 2022.

Who is Bill Nighy?

Bill Nighy is a British actor. He was born on 12th December 1949 to Alfred Martin Nighy and Catherine Josephine Nighy at Surrey, England. After graduating from The John Fischer School he worked as a messenger for the Croydon Advertiser before moving on to Guildford school of acting. He was in a long term relationship with British actress Diana Quick from 1980-2008. They have a daughter, Mary Nighy.

Nighy made his stage debut in London at the National Theatre in a performance of Ken Campbell and Chris Langham’s Illuminatus! After featuring in a couple of Radio dramas for the BBC, he featured in the 1998 film Still Crazy as Ray Simms. Some of his notable films include Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead man’s chest (2005), Pirates of the Caribbean: At world’s end (2007), the historical, political thriller Valkyrie (2008), and Living (2022).

In the course of his brilliant career Nighy has won several awards for outstanding performances. He won a British academy film award for his supporting performance in Love Actually (2003). He also received a British academy television award for his performance in State Of Play (2003). He also received Best Featured actor for his role in a play.

Living is predicted to bring Nighy his first Oscar nomination. Irrespective of an Oscar win, the “Englishness” of the character played by Nighy and his absolute commitment to the role has won the critics’ hearts.
