Five years after Melissa Schuman publicly accused Nick Carter of sexual assault, the Backstreet Boys member is being sued by the singer.

Schuman, 38, claimed that in 2003 when she was 18 years old, 43-year-old Carter forced oral sex on her. At the time, Carter was 22. Schuman also claimed that he then took her virginity. Back in 2018, when Schuman made the allegations, LA prosecutors would not pursue sexual assault charges against the boy band member because the statute of limitations had expired.

However, a law that was passed in California temporarily, lifted the statute of limitations for sexual assault. After that, claims were brought to civil court. “I’ve faced extraordinary backlash for standing up for myself; I am not the first, however, my intention is that I am the last,” Schuman said Tuesday in a statement to The Post. “It’s time that powerful figures in the music industry get the message that they can no longer afford to enable and protect sexual predators. I’m fighting to make the music industry a safer place to work and perform.”

On June 7, 2006, Schuman married dancer Brandon Henschel in San Diego, California. The Henschels announced the boy’s birth on July 18, 2010.
