The highly acclaimed Prime Video series, The Summer I Turned Pretty, returned for its second season. The show, adapted from Jenny Han’s book series, revolves around the intricate love triangle involving Belly and the two brothers, Conrad and Jeremiah, set against the backdrop of Cousins Beach.

The Summer I Turned Pretty season 2 debuted its first three episodes on July 14. The rest of the episodes will be released weekly on Prime Video at 12 a.m. ET, with the season 2 finale arriving on August 18.

Who is Jenny Han?

Jenny Han, born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, to Korean-American parents, is an author of young adult fiction and children’s fiction. In 1998, she graduated from the Governor’s School for Government and International Studies. She pursued her higher education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 2006, she completed her Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing at The New School.

During her time in college, Jenny Han wrote her first book, the children’s novel titled Shug. This novel, published in 2006, follows the journey of Annemarie Wilcox, a twelve-year-old girl navigating the challenges of junior high school.

After Shug, Jenny Han embarked on her next project, a young adult romance trilogy that revolves around a girl’s transformative experiences during her summer breaks. The trilogy comprises three novels: “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” “It’s Not Summer Without You,” and “We’ll Always Have Summer.” These books were published by Simon & Schuster between 2009 and 2011 and quickly gained immense popularity, earning a spot on the prestigious New York Times Best Sellers list.

In 2014, Jenny Han introduced readers to a captivating young adult romance novel titled “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.” The novel’s popularity soared, and within weeks of its release, it was optioned for a screen adaptation. The sequel, “P.S. I Still Love You,” hit the shelves the following year and was recognized with the prestigious Young Adult 2015–2016 Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature. A third book, “Always and Forever, Lara Jean,” was released in 2017.

Her novel “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” was released by Netflix in August 2018. The sequel films, “To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You” and “To All the Boys: Always and Forever,” were released in 2020 and 2021. A spinoff television series titled “XO, Kitty,” linked to the “To All the Boys” film series released in May 2023. Jenny Han not only created the series but also took on roles as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner.

In June 2022, “The Summer I Turned Pretty” television series adaptation was released on Amazon Prime.
