Taylor Swift’s new album Midnights is set to be released on the 21st of this month. The songstress teased the tracks from the upcoming album on TikTok as part of the series Midnights Mayhem. 

Track 4 from the album is called ‘Lavender Haze’, a phrase which was popular in the 50s to describe someone who is in love. Swift also talked about how her relationship with British actor Joe Alwyn, which was constantly scrutinised by the media, inspired the song. Swift and Alwyn have been in a relationship for the past six years.

Who is Joe Alwyn?

Joseph Matthew Alwyn was born on 21 February 1991 in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England to a psychotherapist mother and a documentary filmmaker father. He was raised in Tufnell Park and Crouch End areas of North London. He is the great grandson of composer Willian Alwyn. 

Alwyn did his schooling from City of London School. He was interested in music as a young kid, he took guitar lessons and was part of a school band called Anger Management.

Alwyn was interested in theatre from an early age as well, he was a member of the National Youth Theatre in his late teens. He pursued a BA in English Literature from University of Bristol. He later studied at the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama, from where he graduated with a degree in acting. 

Alwyn signed with an agent who secured him the role of the title character in the film Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk (2016) which marked his debut in industry. 

Joe Alwyn then featured in The Sense of an Ending, a film based on the Booker winning novel with the same name by British author Julian Barnes—he played the character of Adrian Finn. The year 2018 was Alwyn’s breakthrough year, where he starred in a number of films. He starred alongside actors like Emma Stone and Nicolas Hoult in a period dark comedy, The Favourite. The film garnered 10 nominations at the 91st Academy Awards.

He has starred alongside Ben Kingsley in historical drama Operation Finale, Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie in Mary Queen of Scots. 

Alwyn is best known for his role in Hulu television series Conversations With Friends, based on a novel by Sally Rooney of the same name.

Alwyn has also collaborated with Taylor Swift, his girlfriend on her albums Folklore and Evermore. He penned several songs on the albums under the pseudonym William Bowery, which Swift revealed in Folklore: Long Pond Session.
