A riot broke out at Union Square in New York City following the announcement of a Playstation 5 giveaway by YouTubers and Twitch streamers Kai Cenat and Fanum.

Hundreds of people gathered in midtown Manhattan, where shocking images and videos show some of them fighting and others hurling fire extinguishers at one another.

The number of injuries is unknown. There were numerous NYPD officers on the site attempting to disperse the crowd.

Kai Cenat, who has 5.5 million Instagram followers, had already announced a giveaway for Friday at 4 pm. Cenat shared an image with the caption “on the way” just before the riot broke out.

Who is Kai Cenat?

American live streamer and YouTuber Kai Carlo Cenat III was born on December 16, 2001. He is well known for his comedic video on YouTube and live streams on Twitch.

He broke fellow streamer Ludwig’s previous record for the most subscribers on Twitch on February 28, 2023, during a month-long subathon. He received the “Streamer of the Year” award at both the 2023 Streamer Awards and the 12th Streamy Awards.

Cenat also has three other siblings: a twin sister named Kaia, a younger brother named Kaleel, and an older brother named Devonte.

Cenat received his secondary schooling at Frederick Douglass Academy. After completing high school in 2019, he began studying business administration on August 27 at the State University of New York at Morrisville. He struggled to keep up with coursework and content development, and in 2020 he finally dropped out of college.

Kai Cenat makes about $23,280 each month from his sleep streams, for a total of $285,480 per year. His sleeping broadcasts have received over 5.6 million hours of viewing, as reported by sessions Charts, demonstrating a significant viewer interaction during these sessions. Cenat announced on April 17, 2023, that he has been banned from Twitch, with no explanation as to why.
