Lucy Spraggan, a former X Factor candidate, has said she quit the competition after she was sexually assaulted by a porter in the hotel room she was staying in after Rylan Clark took her out to a party in 2012.

Spraggan, who was only 20 when she was discovered for the competition, has revealed in a new memoir, Process: Finding My Way Through, how she felt ‘let down’ by ITV and why she was forced to quit the program early.

Who is Lucy Spraggan?

The X Factor was the singer’s big break after years of gigging. She was the first competitor to play an instrument and sing her own song, Last Night, in her audition, which went on to become the fourth-most watched video in the world that year.

After completing three live performances, she was unable to continue the concert because of the harsh adverse effects of the medicine Pep, which was prescribed to her by doctors and can help prevent HIV infection.

According to reports, Spraggan, now 31, was assaulted during fellow competitors Rylan Clark’s 25th birthday party, where staff and singers received “free alcohol,” which ultimately caused Spraggan to lose consciousness.

With her privately released album Top Room at the Zoo, Spraggan became the first participant in the show’s history to achieve a Top 40 single and album before the live programs were broadcast. Join the Club, her first major-label album was released on October 7, 2013, and peaked at number seven on the UK Albums Chart.

She has since released four additional studio albums, the most recent of which, Choices, was released on February 26, 2021, and made its UK Albums Chart debut at position five. The singles “Flowers,” “Roots,” and “Sober” came before the album. Balance, Spraggan’s seventh studio album, is scheduled to arrive in stores in August 2023. Process, her autobiography, is scheduled to be published in July 2023.
