Nancy Springer is the author of the book Enola Holmes Mysteries which was made into a film of the same name by Harry Bradbeer that premiered on Netflix in 2020. Enola Holmes 2 has also released on Netflix worldwide on Friday, November 4. Enola Holmes 2 is based on the young adult fiction series by Nancy Springer. Millie Bobby Brown plays the character of Enola Homes who starts a detective agency of her own. Enola accepts her first case as a professional detective in Enola Holmes 2. But she rapidly learns that being a female detective-for-hire comes with several challenges.

Who is Nancy Springer?

Nancy Springer is an American author who was born on July 5, 1948, in Montclair, New Jersey. Her mother Helen Connor was a professional artist. Springer read extensively as a child, particularly about King Arthur, the Round Table, Robin Hood, and Sherlock Holmes.

After her marriage, she remained in Pennsylvania for forty-six years with her husband Joel Springer, a clergyman and fine art photographer. The couple got divorced in 1996 and Nancy later married Jaime Fernando Pinto in 1999. They relocated to Florida in 2007 where Nancy could pursue her hobbies of birdwatching, horseback riding, and fishing.  

Nancy Springer has two children Jonathan Paul and Nora Lynn.

Nancy Springer’s Career 

Springer’s career as a writer began shortly after she earned her degree in 1970 from Gettysburg College. She spent the initial ten years of her career writing about mythological fantasy before venturing into contemporary fantasy, magical realism, women’s fiction, suspense and children’s books.

In a career of about four decades, she has written more than fifty books and she won the Tiptree Award in 1994 for her book Larque on the Wing. She also won the Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America for her books Looking for Jamie Bridger in 1996 and Toughing It in 1995. She also wrote many novels that include Wings of Flame, Chains of Gold, Red Wizard, Colt, The Friendship Song and many more.

She published the first Enola Holmes book in 2006, and it was followed by six more sequels in the series that included Book of Isle and the Tales of Rowan Hood. In 2020, a Netflix movie titled Enola Holmes was made based on her book The Enola Holmes Mysteries. 

She has also been the recipient of some prestigious awards that include the Mythopoeic Fantasy Award for Adult Literature Best Novel nominee, the Carolyn W. Field Award, the Edgar Award for Best Juvenile Mystery, and many more.
