Actor and model Charlbi Dean Kriek died on Monday in New York City from an unexpected and sudden illness, her representative told TMZ. She was 32. Charlbi has appeared in several TV shows and films and is best known for her performances in the South African film Spud and CW series Black Lightning. She also stars in the upcoming movie Triangle of Sadness, which won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival this year. 

Who was Charlbi Dean Kriek? 

Charlbi Dean Kriek was born in South Africa on February 5, 1990. She started modeling at the age of six and appeared in several commercials. She signed up for a course at Waterfront Theatre School and joined Alfa Model Management when she was 12 years old. Charlbi featured in the South African editions of GQ and Elle.

She made her acting debut with the 2010 movie, Spud. The movie was directed by Donovan Mash and was an adaptation of a novel of the same name. The movie was a success and received positive reviews. Three years later, she appeared in the Spud sequel. Charlbi went on to act in movies such as Death Race 3: Inferno, Don’t Sleep and An Interview with God. In 2017, she made a guest appearance on the 2017 CBS procedural drama series, Elementary.

Charlbi then played assassin Syonide in the CW series, Black Lightning. She was appreciated for her performance and she gained recognition. She was seen in two seasons of the show, which aired from January 2018 to Mat 2021.

Her final film, Triangle of Sadness, will hit the theatres in the United States on September 28, 2022, and in the United Kingdom on October 28, 2022. The dark comedy won the Cannes Film Festival’s Palme d’Or earlier this year.
