Earl Boen, who was best known for playing a recurring character of Dr. Peter Silberman in the Terminator series, has died.

The veteran actor died on Thursday in Hawaii, according to a family member, who declined to give further details on the cause of death.

Who was Earl Boen?

Earl Boen was born on August 8, 1941 in New York City, New York. He was an American retired film, television and voice actor.

In 1970, Boen married actress Carole Kean. She was 58 years old when she passed away on April 23, 2001, from ovarian cancer.

In The Terminator (1984), Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003), and Terminator: Dark Fate (2019, archive footage only), Boen is best known for playing criminal psychologist Dr. Peter Silberman. Other than Arnold Schwarzenegger, he was the only actor to appear in all three of the original Terminator movies.

Many TV viewers were familiar with Boen from his role as the Rev. Lloyd Meechum, the Harper family’s pastor, in the 1980s sitcom Mama’s Family. Some of the most famous episodes included his character (on both the network and syndicated versions).

In episodes of The Golden Girls, The Golden Palace, The Wonder Years, Boy Meets World, Seinfeld, and Three’s Company, Boen additionally played a clergyman.

The Main Event (1979), Battle Beyond the Stars (1980), 9 to 5 (1980), Soggy Bottom, U.S.A. (1981), The Man with Two Brains (1983), To Be or Not to Be (1983), Alien Nation (1988), Marked for Death (1990), Naked Gun 33+1⁄3: The Final Insult (1994), and Nutty Professor II: The Klumps (1994) are some of the other movies in which Boen appeared.

Boen’s debut voice job as Taurus in the direct-to-video G.I. Joe: The Movie occurred in 1987. LeChuck, the evil pirate from the Monkey Island video game series, is among his most well-known voice roles. 

Additionally, Boen’s voice delivered the introductions for World of Warcraft and its expansions. It includes his voice being used as King Terenas Menethil II in World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, and as Magtheridon in World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade. 

Boen was particularly well known for providing the voices of Edwin Blackgaard, a theatrical actor, and Regis, Edwin’s wicked twin brother, in Focus on the Family’s “Adventures in Odyssey.”

From 2002 to 2016, he was heard on the Disneyland Railroad, and from late 2002 until late 2010, his voice was heard on the Walt Disney World Railroad.

Boen stopped performing on the big screen in 2003, although he kept doing voice work for radio, cartoons on television, and video games.
