Elizabeth Hubbard, soap opera legend known for her appearance as businesswoman Lucinda Walsh, died at 89 over the weekend, her son confirmed. Jeremy Bennett shared the news in a Facebook post on Monday. Her cause of death was not revealed.

“I’m sorry to say with a broken heart mi mum passed over the weekend,” Bennet wrote. “Thank you for being an unmovable rock that guided me through life. I will try to honor your memory for as long as I live,” he added.

In 1955, she graduated summa cum laude from Radcliffe College. She studied theatre at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) in London. She graduated from RADA in 1957, she was the first American to receive the school’s silver medal.

Husband David Bennet

From 1970 to 1972, she was married to furrier David Bennet. They had a son, Jeremy Bennet, who was born on September 20, 1971.

Career

Hubbard made her Broadway debut as a replacement artist in a revival of Threepenny Open soon after its 1955 closer.

In 1962, she started he soap career by playing Anne Fletcher in Guiding Light. She played Carol Kramer on The Edge of Night in 1963.

She was nominated for eight Daytime Emmy Awards for her role as Lucinda Walsh, a devoted mother and powerful businesswoman on the soap, which was based on the upper-class Walsh and Stewart families and their fictional lifestyle in Oakdale, Illinois.

She grabbed two Daytime Emmys – Best Actress for her role as Dr Althea Davis in The Doctors in 1974, and Outstanding Actress for her role as Edith Wilson in “First Ladies Diaries” in 1976.

Hubbard had a long run on The Doctors as Dr. Davis. According to IMDb, she appeared in more than 2,700 episodes from 1964 until the show’s cancellation in 1982.
