Marathi cinema’s popular director-lyricist Pranit Kulkarni died on Monday after a long illness. He breathed his last in Pune. He was 50.

His close friend actor-director Pravin Tarde, who has worked with him in films like ‘Mulshi Pattern’, ‘Deool Band’ and many more, took to his Facebook to share an emotional note on his demise. “My Pranit Dada is gone.. If I start writing about lyricist, writer, director Praneet Kulkarni, the day won’t end..”

Kulkarni made his directorial debut with Tarde’s ‘Deool Band’, a 2015 Drama, Thriller film also starring Gashmeer Mahajani and Girija Joshi in lead and Mohan Joshi in the role of Swami Samarth considered to be an incarnation of Lord Dattatreya worldwide. The film is a story of a scientist who does not believe in god.

Having known each other for years, both Tarde and Kulkarni have made their mark individually in the Marathi Film Industry.

Kulkarni has also penned songs for ‘Mulshi Pattern- ‘Ararara’ which was a huge hit.
