Chinese virologist Dr Li-Meng Yan on Saturday said that US top coronavirus advisor Anthony Fauci‘s emails prove that she was right from the very beginning. Fauci’s emails, which was gained by the US media under a freedom of information request, show that it covered the onset of the outbreak.

Dr Yan had previously been the one to suggest that the virus had leaked from one of the Wuhan labs. Following that, according to a report in the New York Post, she was forced into hiding after accusing Beijing of a cover-up.

In one of the April emails, a health executive had thanked Fauci for publicly stating that scientific evidence does not support the lab-leak theory. However, now that the lab-leak theory is coming to the fore, Dr Yan said that Fauci’s emails contain “a lot of useful information”, suggesting he always knew more than he revealed.

“They verify my work from the very beginning, even from last January, that these people know what happened, but they choose to hide for the Chinese Communist Party and for their own benefits,” news agency ANI quoted Dr Yan as saying.

“He (Fauci) knows all these things,” she said.

She further stated that one email showed that “Dr Fauci even back to 1st of February last year immediately realised that there would be gain-of-function experiment involved in the COVID-19 virus.”

As Fauci’s emails come to light, a debate kicked off, asking if Fauci chose to remain silent despite knowing about the virus.

Commenting on the emails, Fauci, in an interview with CNN, said that he doesn’t remember what is in the redacted email but he thinks that “the idea is far-fetched that the Chinese deliberately engineered something so that they could kill themselves as well as other people.”
