Delhi University’s St Stephen’s College emerged as a new COVID-19 hotspot in the city after as many as 17 people, including students and staff, tested positive for COVID-19, said media reports.

As per a Times of India report, the students and staff went for a chapel trip to Dalhousie and were detected with coronavirus after they came back. Over 40 students took part in the college trip.

The trip, which usually occurs during the mid-sem break every year, concluded on March 31 after which many hostelers returned to the campus and day scholars went to their home. Many students who stay in the hotel were among those who tested positive.

As far as the infected staff goes, a dean, mess steward, and security staff were tested positive for COVID-19 and were asked to quarantine after the results.

Delhi, which is one of India’s largest contributors of COVID-19 infections, recorded 3,500 fresh coronavirus cases on Saturday. As per the health department, the positivity rate rose to 4.48% from 4.11% a day. With 3,567 cases, the number of cumulative cases surged to 672,381 and 10 more deaths took the toll to 11,060.
