The number of coronavirus cases reported from around the world has surpassed the 25 million mark, as per the AFP tally. At least 25,029,250 people have been infected with the novel coronavirus 842,915 of them have died.

Nearly 40% of all reported COVID-19 cases are in the United States and Brazil, the two worst-hit countries.

The USA has reported 5,961,094 cases and 182,761 fatalities, as per the tally by John Hopkins University.

Brazil has reported 3,846,153 cases and 120,262 deaths. It’s closely followed by India with over 3.5 million cases. On Sunday, India set a new virus record when it reported 78,761 new infections in 24 hours, thus surpassing the United States for the world’s highest single-day rise.

The novel coronavirus was first reported on December 31, last year in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, capital of its Hubei province. It spread throughout the world and was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization on March 11.
