India recorded 38,164 new COVID-19
cases and 499 deaths in the last 24 hours, statistics from the health
ministry
confirmed on Monday. India’s infection tally now stands at 3,11,44,229, with the death
toll pushed to 4,14,108. There are a total of 4,21,665 active cases in the country.

38,660 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, taking the total
number of recoveries to 3,03,08,456.

Data from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) confirmed that 14,63,593 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. A total of 44,54,22,256 samples have been tested for the virus across the country as of July 19.

40,64,81,493 individuals have been administered with at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine

After reporting an unprecedented rise in COVID cases in the summer, India is witnessing a gradual drop in cases. During the peak of the second wave, India had recorded over 400,000 infections and around 4,500 deaths everyday.

India’s COVID tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7; 50 lakh on September 16 and surpassed one crore on December 19. The country crossed the grim milestone of 2 crore cases on May 4 and 3 crore on June 23.

The Health Ministry has, however, stressed that over 70% of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities.”Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said on its website.
