India in the past 24 hours recorded 54,069 cases of coronavirus and 1,321 deaths from the COVID-19 disease. India’s tally of COVID-19 cases now stands at 30,082,778 while the death toll has climbed up to 391,981. The recovery rate has increased to 96.61%.

A total of 68,885 people recovered from the coronavirus infection in India on Wednesday, the tally of recovered COVID-19 cases now stands at 29,063,740. 

There are currently 627,057 active cases of coronavirus infections in the nation and is 2.08% of the total infections. A net decline of 16,137 cases in the COVID-19 caseload has been recorded in a day.

Recoveries continue to outnumber daily new cases for the 42nd consecutive day. The case fatality rate was at 1.30%, it said.

The Indian Council of Medical Research said that 397,832,667 samples for COVID-19 have been tested in the nation till June 23. On Wednesday, 1,859,469 samples were tested. 

India administered 64.89 lakh vaccine doses in a day taking the cumulative number of jabs given so far to 30.16 crore. India kicked off its mass vaccination programme on January 16 starting with inoculating healthcare and frontline workers. 

The health ministry has stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths reported so far have occurred due to comorbidities.

“Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said on its website, adding that state-wise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation.
