India’s total COVID-19 caseload reached 77,06,946 on Thursday with 55,838 cases being recorded since Wednesday, data from the Union Health Ministry confirmed.  

The virus claimed 702 in the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 1,16,616.

Active coronavirus cases stand at 7,15,812 after a decrease by 24,278. A total of 79,415 patients recovered from the infection since Wednesday, taking the total number of recoveries to 68,74,518. 

Data from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) confirmed a total of 14,69,984 samples were tested on Wednesday. 

A total of 9,86,70,363 samples have been tested so far. 

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23 and 40 lakh on September 5. It went past 50 lakh on September 16, 60 lakh on September 28 and crossed 70 lakh on October 11.
