India reported 1,61,386 new COVID-19 cases and 1,733 deaths in the last 24 hours, data from the Union Health Ministry confirmed on Wednesday. India’s total infection tally has now reached 4,16,30,885 while the death toll has been pushed to 4,97,975. 

Active cases have reduced by 1,21,456 to 16,21,603 and account for 4.20% of the total caseload.

2,81,109 patients recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery tally to 3,95,11,307. The national recovery rate stands at 94.60%. The case fatality rate stands at 1.20%. 

Data from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) confirmed a total of 73,24,39,986 tests have been conducted across the country as of February 1, of which 17,42,793 were conducted on February 1.

The daily positivity has fallen below 10% and now stands at 9.26%. The weekly positivity rate was recorded at 14.15%. 

India’s cumulative vaccination tally has reached 1,67,29,42,707 after 57,42,659 doses were administered in the last 24 hours. India’s mass vaccination campaign was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 16 last year. 

75% of India’s population had received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine on January 30. The Prime Minister, tagging a tweet by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, congratulated fellow citizens for this “momentous feat” and said he is proud of all those who are making the vaccination drive a success.

“With the mantra of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Prayas’, India has achieved the target of 75% of its adult population being administered both doses of the vaccine. We are getting stronger in the fight against the coronavirus. We have to follow all the rules and get the vaccine as soon as possible,” Mandaviya tweeted in Hindi. 

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20,00,000 mark on August 7, 2020, 30,00,000 on August 23, 40,00,000 on September 5 and 50,00,000 on September 16. It went past 60,00,000 on September 28, 70,00,000 on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90,00,000 on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.

India crossed the grim milestone of two crore on May 4 and three crore on June 23.
