India on Tuesday reported 43,893 new cases of  COVID-19 infections, updated data on the union health ministry’s website said on Wednesday. This takes the total caseload of the country to 79,90,322. 

With 508 new deaths being reported in the last 24 hours, the coronavirus fatality toll has reached 1,20,010 the health ministry’s data further stated.

Active coronavirus cases now stand at 6,10,803. 

The trend of recoveries surpassing new cases continued on Tuesday, with 58,439 patients recovering from the infection, taking the total count to 72,59,509. 

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Wednesday stated that 10,66,786 sample tests have been conducted over the past 24 hours, which took the total number of samples to 10,54,87,680.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23 and 40 lakh on September 5. It went past 50 lakh on September 16, 60 lakh on September 28 and crossed 70 lakh on October 11.
