How Gautam Adani managed to increase wealth by 50% while everyone was struggling: Rahul Gandhi
- Adani added $16.2 billion to wealth this year
- Adani's wealth surge is higher than Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who are the world's most rich persons
- "You struggle to survive while he makes Rs 12 lakh crore... Can you tell me why?" asked Rahul Gandhi
After a news report said that businessman Gautam Adani's wealth increased by 50% in 2021 and he became the biggest wealth gainer in the year, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi asked how did this happen while everyone else was struggling because of the pandemic.
Adani added $16.2 billion to wealth, which is higher than the wealth spike of the world's most rich persons, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, as he took his net worth to $50 billion in 2021, according to Bloomberg Billionaire Index.
Gandhi, quoting the news report, asked in a tweet, "How much did your wealth increase in 2020? Zero. You struggle to survive while he makes Rs 12 lakh crore and increases his wealth by 50 per cent. Can you tell me why?"
According to a Bloomberg report, the shares of all Adani group stocks, barring one, have rallied at least 50% this year. The wealth surge of Adani is nearly double of his compatriot and Asia's richest person, Mukesh Ambani.
The wealth surge also underscores the rising heft of first-generation billionaire, Adani, who rarely speaks in public, and has lured investments from Total SA to Warburg Pincus.
The billionaire has been expanding his conglomerate rapidly as he has added ports, airports, data centres and coal mines in the nation and is determined to go ahead with his controversial Carmichael coal project in Australia.
