India reports 26,115 new COVID-19 cases, over 4,000 less than yesterday

India recorded 26,115 new COVID-19 cases and 252 deaths in the last 24 hours, data released by the Indian Health Ministry on Tuesday showed. This takes India's COVID tally to 3,35,04,534 while the death toll stands at 4,45,385.
After Monday's addition, India now has 3,09,575 active COVID-19 cases, which is the lowest in 184 days.
In the last 24 hours, 34,469 people recovered from the infection taking India's total recovery numbers to 3,27,49,574.
According to the health ministry data, India's current recovery rate now stands at 97.75, which is the highest since March 2020, when the infection was declared a pandemic by the WHO.
The weekly positivity rate in the country is 2.08, which has remained less than 3% since the last 88 days. The daily positivity rate has also remained below 3% with the current rate of 1.85% for the last 22 days.

Meanwhile, 14, 13,950 samples were tested for COVID 19 on Monday, September 20 for examination. This takes the total sample examination numbers to 55,50,35,717, suggested by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data.
On the vaccination front, India has successfully administered 81.85 crores COVID-19 vaccines under the world largest inoculation drive.
On Monday alone, the country has administered 96,46,778 vaccines against coronavirus.
In the week that ended on Sunday, India recorded a 15% drop in new COVID-19 cases. This was the lowest weekly count in over six months. COVID-19 cases in Kerala, the virus hotspot for so many weeks, declined by 21%. Between September 13 and 19, India reported 2.14 lakh cases, down from 2.51 lakh cases reported the earlier week.
India's COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5, 50 lakh on September 16, 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and the one-crore mark on December 19.The country crossed the grim milestone of two crore cases on May 4 and three crore on June 23.
