Two people, including a minor, have been arrested in connection with the death of two girls in Baburaha village in Unnao district, ANI reported, quoting Uttar Pradesh Police. Three girls, aged 16, 15, and 14, were found in an unconscious state in a field by villagers on Wednesday. They were rushed to a local hospital where two of them were declared brought dead.

Police on Thursday registered a case of murder even as a post-mortem revealed no injury marks.

“The post-mortem of the two girls was done by a panel of doctors and no injury before death or external injuries were found on their bodies,” DGP Hitesh Chandra Awasthi said on Thursday, PTI reported.

On Friday, police arrested two people, a man identified as Vinay and a minor, in connection with the incident. Police said that during interrogation, Vinay said he befriended one of the girls during the lockdown that they used to talk to each other in the fields. He went on to say that he fell in love with the girl and confessed his love. Vinay decided to kill the girl when she rejected his proposal, ANI reported, quoting IG Laxmi Singh.

“On the day of the incident, Vinay offered ‘namkeen’ to the girl when she came to the field. When she asked for water, he gave her a bottle of pesticides mixed water. Other two girls also drank the same water,” Singh said during a press conference.

“Accused Vinay said that he tried to stop other two girls from drinking the water, but in vain. When the girls fainted, he panicked and fled the spot,” she added.

The third victim remained hospitalised as of Friday and is being treated for poisoning.
