Despite all-rounder Washington Sundar’s consistent performance
with the bat in the first Test against England, he is expected to face quite a
competition from Kuldeep Yadav for the spinner’s slot in the upcoming Test match. BCCI further mentioned left-handed spinner Axar Patel as being available
for the second Test, having just come out of a knee injury due to which he
could not participate in the series opener, PTI reported.

The Indian Cricket Board has also informed that it had put Shahbaz Nadeem
and Deepak Chahar back to the roster of standby players, being removed from the
main team.

Patel has “recovered completely and is now available
for selection for the 2nd Paytm Test in Chennai against England to be played
from Saturday”, PTI quoted the BCCI as saying in a statement.

Patel’s training footage, as uploaded by the board, made the
player look rather uncomfortable with the bat with a strapping just below his
knee, as he reportedly missed a few deliveries from pacers during practice.

On the other hand, Washington Sundar, despite a considerable
batting display in the first Test, did not get any wickets in his two spells,
albeit getting only a single over in the second innings.
