Three women in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district were administered with anti-rabies injections rather than the COVID-19
vaccines, their families informed on Friday, reported PTI. Saroj (70), Anarkali
(72) and Satyavati (60) had gone to the Kandhla government health centre on
Thursday, when the incident reportedly took place, as per various media reports.

The three were handed out anti-rabies
vaccine slips after the vaccination, at which point their families started
protesting.

Bijendra Singh, the centre-in-charge,
said that an inquiry would be conducted into the incident, after demands rose
to carry out a probe into the matter. He further added that those found guilty
would be facing stringent measures.

“We have received a detailed
report on this episode and we found the women did go to get their Covid
vaccinations but by mistake they did not go to the first-floor vaccination
centre and instead went to the OPD, where the pharmacist, who was leaving for
some work, asked a private person – the pharmacist of a ‘Jan Aushadi Kendra’ —
to give them anti-rabies shots,” Shamli District Magistrate Jasjit Kaur
was quoted by NDTV as saying in a video conference to reporters.

India has seen a steep rise in its
COVID-19 numbers in recent weeks.

Uttar Pradesh, too, has not been an
exception to this trend. The  state, till Friday, recorded 654,404
Covid-19 cases and 9,003 related deaths.
