Indian batsman Suryakumar Yadav notched his maiden T20I fifty as India scored a commanding 185 for the loss of eight wickets against England in the fourth match at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday. However, his innings was cut short by a controversial dismissal as the third umpire ruled that Dawid Malan’s catch, which  footage showed was grounded, at deep fine-leg was legal. The on-field umpire’s ‘soft signal’ was out.

Similarly, in the final over by Jofra Archer, Washington Sundar ramped the ball to third man where Adil Rashid seemed to touch the boundary while taking the catch. Once again, the third umpire controversially adjudged the Englishman’s foot was clear of the fence when completing the catch.

Netizens slammed the decision by the officials, with a number of experts questioning the ‘soft-signal’ rule.
