A case that started out as a suicide of a popular actor, after a slew of FIRs, charge sheets, investigations and primetime debates has resulted in several arrests and many popular names from ‘Bollywood’ being mentioned.
In recent developments, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Wednesday summoned actors Deepika Padukone, Sara Ali Khan, Shraddha Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh in a drug case related to the death of Sushant Singh Rajput.
Priorly, Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik and 17 others (three of them out on bail) were under arrest based on an FIR, registered on August 26. The agency had told a local court that the FIR meant to “uproot the drug citadel in Mumbai, especially Bollywood”, and alleged seizures of commercial quantities of narcotics, including LSD, from one of the arrested accused.
Apart from Chakraborty and Showik, the initial FIR, of August 26, names Rajput’s talent manager Jaya Saha, former manager Shruti Modi and Goa-based hotelier Gaurav Arya.
Padukone and Rakul Preet Singh were summoned by the NCB based on chats reportedly found on Jaya Saha’s phone.
Rhea Chakraborty, reportedly, named all the four female actors after being interrogated between September 6 and September 8 before being arrested, according to NCB.
The NCB has so far arrested a total 19 accused in the case including Chakraborty and her brother Showik, Sushant Singh Rajput’s house manager Samuel Miranda, domestic help Dipesh Sawant, alleged drug peddlers Zaid Vilatra and Abdel Basit Parihar; Kaizan Ebrahim, Karan Arora, Abbas Lakhani and Anuj Keshwani.
According to reports, NCB officials have seized about 590 gm of hashish, 0.64 gm of LSD sheets, 304 gm of marijuana, including imported marijuana joints and capsules, Rs 1,85,200 in cash and 5,000 Indonesian Rupiah from one of the 19 arrested.
Rajput, 34, was found hanging in his home in suburban Bandra on June 14.
