Ather

MG Motor

Ashok Leyland

Answer: Ather

Ather S340, India’s first smart scooter was launched on 5th June, 2016. The electric scooter is unique and has several high-tech features. Ather, at around the same time, announced smart charging network in Bengaluru where the Ather scooters can be charged.

Interestingly, Ather Energy was funded by two wheeler giant Hero MotoCorp with funding of over Rs 205 crore in 2016. Ather Energy has also been funded by PEs such as Tiger Global and Flipkart founders Sachin and Binny Bansal too which are investment in personal capacity.

Work for the project began in early 2014, with focus on that the 340 is not labelled as yet another 2-wheeler EV.

At the launch, this is what Tarun Mehta, co-founder and CEO had to say: “The future will be connected and inevitably electric and the Ather S340 has been built as a manifestation of this philosophy. It is an unapologetically electric vehicle, it has been designed and built mostly in-house with engineering precision”.

The S340 has driving modes such as sport and economy, on the lines of premium sedans and SUVs. Ather has developed its own mobile app for the EV which allows the rider to remotely connect with the vehicle, thereby configuring and syncing profile preferences.
