Pakistan cricket team veteran Azhar Ali scored his 7000th run in Test cricket in Lahore on March 23, 2022, in the series decider match against Australia.

Ali reached the milestone after sweeping Australian spinner Nathan Lyon, before being caught and bowled by Australian skipper Pat Cummins for 78.

It took the 37-year-old 94 Test matches to reach the 7,000 run mark, and Ali joined an elite list of Pakistani batters who achieved the feat earlier.

With the landmark, the Ali joined Pakistani legends Younis Khan (118 Tests, 10,099 runs), Javed Miandad (104 Tests, 8,832 runs), Inzamam-ul-Haq (119 Tests, 8,829 runs) and Mohammad Yousuf (90 Tests, 7,530 runs) as the only players from the country to go past the 7,000 run mark.

Ali also became the 54th player in cricket history to achieve the feat.

“I am happy at the achievement in Lahore but unfortunately I could not carry on,” the 37-year-old said about his achievement, expressing regret about being caught out at 78.

After the first two matches of the three-match series ended in draws, Pakistan went on to lose the series 1-0 to Australia, making Pat Cummins the third Australian captain to have won a series in the country.
