Haryana Minister Anil Vij, who tested positive for coronavirus two weeks after receiving a vaccine shot, in a tweet, clarified that it has only been 14 days since he got the first dose of Covaxin and the antibodies will only develop after 14 days of the second dose.

According to Bharat Biotech’s trial registry, this COVID-19
vaccine trial is a double-blind trial, where half the volunteers are been
provided vaccine and half are provided placebo. This means that no one knows
that Vij was either given the vaccine or the placebo, reported Hindustan Times.

“It is a
double-blind trial (meaning, neither the recipient nor the researchers know who
is given a vaccine and who is given a placebo). Such trials have a very
rigorous protocol for unblinding,” a Union health ministry official said asking
not to be named.

“He is being
treated at a civil hospital and he feels fine. The complete cycle will take 42
days and during that period of 42 days, there is no protection,” HT quoted Vij as saying.

Covaxin is a
two-dose vaccine, which is indigenously developed COVID-19 vaccine by Bharat
Biotech in Alliance with the Indian Council of Medical research (ICMR).
