Mohammad Rizwan scored 71 runs in 51 balls, Mohammad Nawaz made a quickfire 42 as Pakistan defeated India by five wickets in the Asia Cup 2022 Super 4 stage at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.
Pakistan chased India’s 182-run target with one ball to spare. The Rizwan-Nawaz partnership of 73 in just 6.5 overs in the mid-stage of the innings had the Indians napping. They smashed Yuzvendra Chahal (1/43 in 4 overs) and Hardik Pandya (1/44 in 4 overs) to catch up with the rising required run rate.

In the first innings, India posted 181 for 7. Virat Kohli top-scored for India with 60 off 44 balls, while KL Rahul and captain Rohit Sharma contributed 28 apiece.

“The whole world is watching this match. This game is as valuable as a final. Every player will try to go give his 100%. The plan, as always, was to score against the new ball with one of us (himself and Babar Azam) batting long. I tried to stay till the end. We know our strengths, we have depth in our batting, we have power-hitters who are capable of hitting around 45 runs off the last four overs. So we didn’t panic,” Mohammad Rizwan said after the game.
