There have been rumours that BCCI secretary
Jay Shah is trying to convince Sachin Tendulkar to take up a role at the board in
near future. Tendulkar is currently playing the role of a mentor with five-time
IPL champions Mumbai Indians. Former cricketers associating with Indian cricket
in various capacities is a recent trend. Former India all-rounder Ravi Shastri
had been associated with the Indian cricket team from 2014 to 2021, first as a
director and then as a head coach.

Legendary batter Rahul Dravid has been
associated with the development of Indian cricket since 2015. He managed India
U-19 and India A teams. Players like Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Washington
Sundar and Prithvi Shaw were groomed by him. Dravid was later appointed as
chief of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in July 2019.

In October 2019, Sourav
Ganguly
became BCCI president and persuaded Dravid to take up the head coach role
with the Indian senior men’s team. Another star VVS Laxman replaced Dravid at
NCA as the chief of cricket development recently. Earlier, Anil Kumble had
coached India for a year in 2016.

Now, Shah has taken the initiative to bring
Tendulkar on board to use his expertise for the development of Indian cricket.
With more than 34,000 runs in international cricket, Tendulkar is regarded as
the greatest modern-day cricketer around the world. It will be a big boost to
the development of Indian cricket if he does take up any role like with the
BCCI.

According to a recent report published by the Times of India, Shah has been trying hard to convince Tendulkar to take up a
role with the board.

“He’s (Shah) been off the media radar but
absolutely clear about what is the right thing to do. Little things that
matter. For instance, appointing Rahul Dravid as head coach, ensuring someone
of the stature of VVS Laxman gets associated with the National Cricket Academy
(NCA). We’re told he’s now trying to convince Sachin Tendulkar to get into some
role in the near future,” said a board member on condition of anonymity.
