After a nail-biting contest in Bihar, in which BJP’s NDA secured 125 seats, Lok Janshakti Party President Chirag Paswan described the poll’s results as a “victory” of Prime Minister Modi.

The results of Bihar polls were announced at around 4 am on Wednesday, more than 20 hours later when the counting of votes started. BJP grabbed 74 seats while JD(U) managed to get 43 seats as the alliance crossed the 122-majority mark emerging as the winner of state elections.

Paswan, whose party managed to take just one seat, said, the people of Bihar have shown trust in PM Modi and he was “proud” that LJP did not bend down for power. Paswan’s party had won two seats in 2015 assembly elections.

“People have reposed their trust in PM Modi; this is his victory. I am proud LJP did not bend down for power, our vote share increased and this will benefit us in the future.”

LJP did not contest Bihar polls with NDA as Paswan had announced that he wants defeat incumbent CM Nitish Kumar, who is chief ministerial candidate of the JD(U)-BJP’s alliance.

“All LJP candidates fought gloriously on their own without any alliance. The party’s vote share has increased. It had gone to the polls with the resolve of ‘Bihar first Bihari first’. It has been strengthened in every district. This is bound to benefit the party in the future,” Paswan said, PTI reported.

The LJP received 5.68% of votes while contesting on nearly 140 seats in the elections to the 243-seat Bihar assembly.
