BJP MP Pragya Thakur claimed that drinking cow urine extract has protected her from coronavirus, urging party workers to do the same, in a party meeting in Bhopal on Sunday.

“I ingested cow urine daily and it is a kind of acid that purifies my body,” the party MP said at a party event in Bhopal on Sunday. “It also cleanses the lungs and protects me from Covid-19 infection. I don’t take any corona medication, but I’m fine,” she added.

Thakur went on to describe how to ingest it as well. “The urine should come from an indigenous breed of cow…one that only eats grass from the forest,” she explained. ” After that, it should be filtered at least 16 times with a cotton cloth before being consumed,” she claimed.

Thakur maintained her position on Monday, saying, “I said what I practise.” It’s just my belief, and I didn’t force anyone to believe it.”

Thakur was admitted to the AIIMS hospital in Delhi in December 2020 due to Covid-19-related symptoms.

Thakur previously claimed that cow urine and other by-products of cows healed her breast cancer after she underwent a double mastectomy.

Owing to continuing health problems, the Malegaon blast co-accused has been absent from public life for the past four months. Many residents and activists had also launched a campaign against her for failing to assist the citizens of Bhopal in the face of a scarcity of oxygen beds and Remdevisir shots. She has recently begun attending public programmes.

Meanwhile, Congress used the MP’s remarks to launch a campaign against her party. Congress spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill said in a tweet on Monday that Shaheed Jamil quit the government COVID panel since the BJP must believe in quack formulas.

Many physicians, including The Indian Medical Association, have cautioned against the use of cow urine to guard against Covid-19, stating that its characteristics do not provide any immunity against the virus and can trigger several infections such as black fungus or mucormycosis, both of which can be fatal.

Surendra Singh, a BJP MLA from Uttar Pradesh, declared earlier this month that consuming cow urine prevented him from contracting coronavirus. He also suggested drinking “cow urine with a glass of cold water.”

“I have no qualms in admitting I drink cow urine,” BJP Bengal leader Dilip Ghosh said last year when the pandemic was in its early stages. He was in Kolkata for an event where people were urged to consume cow urine to ward off COVID-19.
