The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday released its first list of 57 candidates who will be contesting the upcoming assembly polls in West Bengal. Out of the 57 seats announced, the Baghmundi seat has been allocated to its new ally All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU).

“Out of 57 seats announced, the Baghmundi seat has been given to AJSU for West Bengal Assembly elections,” BJP General Secretary Arun Singh said, ANI reported. 

Baghmundi constituency is currently held by INC MLA Nepal Mahata, who defeated Samir Mahato of AITC in 2016. 

Among the prominent names contesting for BJP in the upcoming elections include former Trinamool Congress member Suvendu Adhikari and ex-cricketer Ashoke Dinda who will be contesting from Nandigram Moyna respectively. 

West Bengal Assembly elections will be held in eight phases, from March 27 to April 29 and the counting will take place on May 2.
